Economy and Society event at York

York will be hosting an event on ‘Economy and Society in the West and Beyond’ on the 24th of April. The conference site is here and the outline is below:

In the wake of the recent financial crisis, scholars have been rethinking their attitude to economics – not just its impact on our lives but the origins of the particular vision of economics that has come to dominate both the discipline and wider political and social debates.

This workshop brings together scholars from the humanities and social sciences to consider questions in these areas. Building on the idea that to analyse the present crisis it is necessary to understand it sociologically, politically, and historically, the workshop will explore the theme of economy and society across different geographical settings, including China and Latin America, and different historical periods.

The aim is to encourage interdisciplinary discussion that will provide the starting point for future collaborations and projects.
