Les Back on visual sociology and the photography of Pierre Bourdieu

Also on the CUCR blog are two recently posted interview ‘webcasts’ featuring Les Back. Both offer some thoughts in the recent International Visual Sociology Association annual conference. In the first video Les talks about his keynote conference address in the photography if Pierre Bourdieu. In this video Les talks about the often overlooked visual sociology that Bourdieu developed. Les explains Bourdieu’s use of images and how it fitted in to his own biography and sociology. In the second video Les offers some reflections on the IVSA conference. In this video he speaks about the experimental nature of visual sociology and his it provides a space for people to think creatively about the craft of sociology.
