The Internet of things (a short film)

The notion of the ‘Internet of things’ has been kicking around for a while. Effectively it is used to describe the increasingly connected form the objects and spaces now take. As a result of objects being more networked into spaces, they exist as data as well as material objects. The result is that objects exist as different combinations of data and other materials. The implantation of small RFID sensors in objects is seen as a key development but so too are traceable objects of all types. Sociological Imagination have posted a short video about the Internet of things. This type of connectivity of objects and the subsequent data harvesting are likely to become more central in the social sciences over the next few years.
