Event on ‘Music & Meaning’

I’ve put together a small event on ‘Music & Meaning’. I’m going to be speaking with some of my colleagues. It’s on the 7th of November. Further information with a link to a leaflet is available here. Here is a brief description:

This event, which is hosted by the Department of Sociology, will explore the relations between music and meaning from a range of perspectives. The four speakers will explore the different ways in which music generates meaning and/or the different ways in which meaning is attached to particular musical forms. The papers will all be exploratory and the event will provide an informal opportunity for plenty of discussion about the issues raised. Each talk will be 20 minutes in length with 10 minutes for questions. The symposium is open to everyone and there is no need to book in advance.
