The music listening site Last.fm have released an annual review that provides visuals and stats about various aspects of music trends during the year. It is really revealing to see what can be extracted from data like this. I’m going to try to use some of this in finishing off an article i’m working on about music tastes. It is clear that last.fm know a good deal about what is going on in music cultures from the data they are harevesting. There must be something that can be used in all of this. There is definitely a sociological imagination in popular culture here in last.fm’s attempts to analyse the data.
